DAAS
The Digital Arts & Animation Studio (DAAS) Animation lab is located on the 1st floor of the North Main Street's Grand Piano Building. It is equipped with 15 Apple G5s, with software that includes Maya 8, Adobe AfterEffects, and Flash. Besides software for animation, and rendering, students also have access to a rapid prototyping machine that can be used to create physical prototypes in the round, from their computer 3D models.
DISIS & RECORDING STUDIOS
Music department's Digital Interactive Sound and Intermedia Studio (DISIS) and the Recording Studio located on the 2nd floor of the North Main Street's Grand Piano Building, right above DAAS, offer a bleeding-edge combination of software and hardware, sound insulation and sound diffusion. Completed in summer 2007, DISIS prides itself with a 21st century OS-agnostic environment sporting Linux, OS X, and Windows machines. Each station is equipped with the cutting-edge hardware, including external multichannel-capable soundcards, and multi I/O MIDI interfaces. Software supported by the DISIS includes Max/MSP/Jitter, Pure-Data, Logic Pro, Sonar, Bias Peak Pro, Adobe Audition, Tracktion, NI Komplete, East-West orchestra samples, a collection of Spectrasonics synths, Reason, Csound, RTCmix, Ardour, Supercollider, Sibelius, and many more. All stations are connected to the main overhead projector which allows for seamless transition between video feeds. The studio also sports a growing portfolio of video I/O equipment, various motes, and external controllers for interactive manipulation of audio-visual material, as well as multimedia editing software facilities including Sony Vegas suite, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Studio 8, and Cinelerra. Unlike conventional classrooms, DISIS resorts to a Wacom tablet in conjunction with the overhead display technology as a new alternative to the traditional whiteboard. The studio offers digital sound diffusion with an 8.2 Genelec speaker array as well as a 24-speaker DREAM Interface, latter being funded as one of the Music/DISIS/CHCI research projects.
